Recent murders in Manicaland.
Dickson Sibamba 60, MDC activist from Buhera South, Ward 28. He was murdered by armed war veterans and youth militias on 03/07/08 at around 2200hrs at his home. The militias had made him pay a goat as form of punishment after which they murdered him. He is survived by a wife and 5 children. His body is still at Murambinda Mortuary. Masitafundikera Gumura 72, and his wife Aqualine Sanzvemgwa 61, all from Headlands, were abducted on 25/06/08 by Zanu youths at around 2100 hrs. Gumura died on the spot after severe torture while his wife Aqualine died three days later on 28/06/08. They were all buried on 03/07/08. Maxwell Machasi 40, from Mararakuenda Village, Chief Nyashanu was murdered on 06/07/08 by War veterans lead by Gapu and Chimbara. His body is still at Murambinda mortuary. Alex Kazembe 42, of Dekeya Village, Ward 26 in Makoni South, died on 06/07/08 after severe assault by Zanu PF youths at Nyazura River.

HARARE - The decomposing remains of missing MDC driver, Joshua Chakabeza, were discovered late on Saturday in a secluded and bushy area on a farm in Beatrice, some 30 km out of Harare.
The grisly remains of Chakabeza which were found two weeks after his abduction in Harare by suspected state security agents sent shock-waves throughout the MDC leadership.
Chakabeza who was a driver for the party in Mashonaland West Province and an MDC activist, Tendai Chidziwo, were abducted on the afternoon of June 25 in Msasa, Harare. They were in the process of assisting the widow of murdered MDC activist, Tonderai Ndira, to move her household effects from her home in Mabvuku to another residential area where she had sought accommodation. She had expressed concerns about her safety in Mabvuku after the abduction and murder of her husband. Three unmarked double cab trucks ambushed their vehicle, movie style, in Msasa on Saturday. One screeched to a halt in front, while another stopped just behind with a third forcing the vehicle from the left. An MDC spokesman said yesterday that 16 men armed with AK assault rifles had jumped from the assault vehicles. They had pushed Chakabeza from the driver’s seat and hijacked the MDC truck loaded with the furniture. They had taken Chakabeza and Chidziwo captive, leaving the widow and her two children standing by the roadside, trembling from fright and crying. They had driven off in the direction Beatrice and on arrival on a farm they had tortured the two, the spokesman said. “They asked questions relating to their involvement in the MDC and then shot them both,” a statement released by the MDC Monday said. “Joshua was shot three times and Tendai was shot once on the right side of the head. Their assailants left them for dead. But Tendai miraculously survived the shooting and dragged him self for about fifty meters from the scene, to a nearby gravel road that joins the main Harare – Masvingo highway, about 6 km away. A Good Samaritan assisted him to Beatrice and then Harare after finding him in a state of unconsciousness.” In Harare Chidziwo had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a local clinic where he remained in a coma for close to a week. After he recovered Chidziwo had then revealed where Chakabeza’s body could be found. The information had led to the discovery of the deceased man’s decomposing body two weeks after his abduction. A desperate search had covered all of Harare’s hospitals and mortuaries and police stations and had extended to outlying areas. “Abductions, murders and violence against perceived MDC members continue countrywide, more two weeks after the rigged one man election,” the MDC statement said. “The whereabouts of hundreds of kidnapped MDC personnel remain unknown. “It is the very reason the MDC is saying this violence has to stop before any meaningful negotiations can take place. This kind of violence is very un-Zimbabwean. How does a self respecting party enter into negotiations within the context of such level of violence? “The struggle has never been about power, but the restoration of the dignity of the people of Zimbabwe. We can not walk to State House jumping over skeletons. The Mugabe regime is now a vampire that can only survive if it continues to suck the blood of the people of Zimbabwe. This violence on Zimbabweans must stop.”

Today the Ministry of Justice said it was investigating the affair as a "matter of urgency".
Peter Mavunga, 54, allegedly uses his column in the pro-Mugabe Harare Herald newspaper to attack the Zimbabwean dictator's opponents and rant against the UK and the West.
Yet it was reported today that Mr Mavunga earns £25,000 from British taxpayers as a court probation officer for the Ministry of Justice.
